Chris "the Snake" Bathgate

Despite the titles of today's featured tracks, I assure you Chris Bathgate isn't overly obsessed with serpents. Those assurances would be purely guesswork on my part, but I'm 60% sure I'm right. Maybe 55%. In any case, Mr. Bathgate is somewhat of a mystery. Ann Arbor, MI isn't one of the places I'd expect a songwriter like this to call home, but alas, expectations with this gentleman are silly. His voice warbles like an ancient gospel singer, melody and lyrics snaking around unexpected instrumentation. A splash of cymbals here, a searing tear of distorted guitar there, sudden and gone again, like being teased with a silk kerchief while blindfolded. The lyrics, as stated here before, are often profound. "we burnt down the whole damn block, with a wink, and just one match." I know the feeling Chris.

Greetings,
I just have to say that I think your blog is great! Admittedly, I haven't exactly scoured it but I love it! I was looking for a Cloud Cult pic on google and was directed here and am so happy that I found you! I love finding great new places for the best music. I plug bands I like (and radio station KEXP) often on my own blog (http://ramblingsofasocialincompetent.blogspot.com/) and I don't really expect many more than about nine people to see it so it's great to see something as good as yours out there! I'm going to link to your blog from mine so enjoy the extra two to two-and-a-half hits you get! Best wishes!
-Jeff

I want to suggest an emerging Washington band (well he's a one-man amazement) to you... Jean-Jacques Tetu. He sounds great and seems like something you might enjoy.

hi anon! Are you, by chance, Jean-Jacques Tetu himself? Because wow. Thanks for the heads up, but I just have to disagree with you. But power to him (or you, or whatever) for making music and keep on keeping on and all that. I can't tell if you're spam or not. Do you actually read this blog?

Howdy there,
I was just searching for my name on the internet (I know, sounds vain) and I saw that you peoples were writing about me! I mean, wow! Thanks a lot. I just set up a new site (www.tetumusic.com). This Chris Bathgate sounds good too; he has a great unique voice. Anyway, thanks for the attention.

Dear drewcif:

Wow! A little bitter or something here? Check the site, check the people behind him, then let us know why you have to harsh people's mellow. Is flaming your forte? We all have our tastes, no need to trash people. It's like crabs, they grab each other and keep themselves down in a bucket, nobody gets out. And what's with the "hi anon"? Man, don't take yourself so friggin' seriously.

oldie, I truly hope you come back and read this because if you think I'm negative you clearly don't read this blog in the first place. Posting spam as anonymous is way lame, as is blatantly plugging an artist that has nothing to do with Chris Bathgate or even remotely sound like him. If you want me to check out an artist for the blog there are other avenues than blindly spamming my readers with irrelevant crap.

I was kidding around the first time by the way. And I'm the one that takes myself too seriously. Yeah...

Hey, woah there everyone. I know that the writer of the blog didn't mean bad, but I really didn't have ANYONE post spam for me. I'd love to know who put the first nice comment about me on here, and then I'd thank them. I really didn't spam it. Having said that, listen to my music!

Wow! You do better weed than I have ever gotten close to, drewcif. If you think I am the one who first posted, check your crystal ball for fogginess. I am an old fart (fiftyish) who heard that kid in Bellingham at the Buffalo, and I liked what I heard. Since his name means "hardheaded," I had to google him and I liked what he had to say.

If you don't want people to post comments, don't open your blog to comments. You don't have to like his music, why should you? But why jab him with stiletto stabs? Anyway, I am too old to come back, so go ahead and rip at me this time, I'l never know.
