Assignments for 12.4.2006

Finally, I'm in my new place with electricity and internet! I appreciate all your patience and I hope you've missed me as much as I've missed you.

Listening Assignments!

1. Inlets - Pictures of Trees - This dude Sebastien is in My Brightest Diamond with Shara Worden (who sings on all the Sufjan Stevens recordings) and this is his side project. Very Sufjan-esque with banjos and quivering falsetto harmonies. Still, it's got a little unique spice that keeps me pressing play. [from Vestibule|download all tracks for free!]

2. Elefant - Uh Oh Hello - Yeah! This song is a definite pick-me-up, I dare you not to nod your head. It sounds like the Cure back in the '80s, definitely some old-school Smiths as well. I need to find more from this band. [from the Black Magic Show|buy]

3. Shearwater - Seventy-Four, Seventy-Five - This band is new to me as of today, but I've already spun it a bunch. It's epic and haunting, in a way, intensely melodic. Reminds me of a darker New Pornographers. The good New Pornographers songs, not the lame ones. [from Palo Santo|buy]

4. Camp Lo - Luchini (A.K.A This is It) - Holy sheee, this song takes me back. I hadn't heard it in ages until last week. Definitely should have been in my old-school hip-hop post from a week ago. Amazing hook. [from Uptown Saturday Night|buy]
